Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to come with a partner? No, we rotate partners as this helps you develop quicker as a dancer. If you’d prefer to stick with one partner, that’s fine as well. Solo Jazz is danced indivually.
  • What should I wear? Classes are very casual, so wear clothes you are comfortable in and allow you to move freely. Flat shoes are best, and ideally fairly light and not too much grip – also not shoes that might easily fall off your foot! No black soled shoes or stiletto heels which may mark the floor.
  • What should I bring? Water or other soft drink, and a towel may be useful.
  • Follow or Lead?  These terms are based on your role in the dance. You can even switch roles partway through a dance! Trying both roles also helps your development as a dancer. Initially it’s usually better to stick with one role for a while to avoid confusion.
  • I don’t think I can dance – is that a problem? Absolutely not! Our Level One class starts at 7.30pm and we recommend for beginners to attend this class for as long as they need to help them turn new footwork into muscle memory.
  • Are there any discounts? We offer student discounts as well as Access to Dance opportunities.

FAQs about Lindy Hop blocks

  • Do I have to wait till the next block starts? Level 1: Yes, to maintain the progressive nature of the class content, if you cannot attend the first week, you will need to wait until the next block begins. Level 2: You can drop in anytime, however due to the progressive structure, attending every week is encouraged.
  • When can I progress from Level 1 to Level 2? After you have completed all 4 blocks from Level 1 and are confident with all Level 1 content.
  • Can you tell me what the content is for the blocks? There is a class curriculum on each of the class pages.
  • What happens if I miss a class? Unfortunately we will not be able to refund a missing week, however you will be able to access recap videos to catch up. If you booked a block but can no longer attend, let us know to potentially defer to your next available block.
