Swing Exe was founded in 2019. We’re a non-profit organisation run by volunteers to promote swing dancing in Exeter and the surrounding area.
Mission: At Swing Exe we want to share our passion for swing dancing and to build a community of social dancers.
We hope to build a community of dancers by offering regular lessons and workshops. Improve connection both in our dancing, to the culture of swing dancing and to our local community. All while honouring the history and culture of swing dancing.
As a community learning and dancing Lindy Hop today in Exeter, we recognise that we are participating in a cultural tradition born from Black creativity and resilience in the face of racism and segregation.
Honouring that history means more than knowing the steps. It means valuing the music, respecting the dance’s roots, and supporting an inclusive and welcoming dance space for everyone.
We’re excited to explore this dance together with that spirit of appreciation, care and community, and to be better guests in the African American cultural phenomenon that is jazz.
